SONGLINES

There's history in the dust beneath your feet

From forty-thousand years of searing heat

Ingrained in me like D.N.A

This country's heart won't fade away

I see the truth in every face I meet

There's wisdom in the sky above your head

From the ocean to the dusty river bed

It's written in the air you breathe

The reason why you never leave's

In the blood and tears our ancestors have shed...

And it's written on the Songlines

Echoed in the Dreamtime

Surely as the sun shines

Shadowed in my facial lines...

I hear it in my child's voice

Living here is my choice

The descendant of a bloodline

That my son will carry on

There's memories in the paintings on the wall

And whispers in a roaring waterfall

This land is just an open book

There's stories everywhere you look

If you'd just take the time to read them all

So open up your eyes and look around

Australia's just like heaven on the ground

I know it's hard to comprehend

How Songlines have no start nor end

And Uluru was formed from just a sound...

But it's written on the Songlines

It's echoed in the Dreamtime

As surely as the sun shines

It's shadowed in my facial lines...

I've heard it in my child's voice

And living here is my choice

I'm descended from a bloodline

That my son must carry on

Yes I know that it's hard to understand

It seems like such a complicated thing

And you might say that the spirit of the land

Is more than just the melodies we sing...

But it's written on the Songlines

It's echoed in the Dreamtime

As surely as the sun shines

It's shadowed in my facial lines...

I've heard it in my child's voice

And living here is my choice

I'm descended from a bloodline

That my son must carry on

A descendent from a bloodline

That my son will carry on
